One of the three bladed props was torn from its shaft on the No. 3 engine by a near-hit flak burst.   Note how the whirling blades scarred the cowling and ripped into the fuselage under the co-pilot's feet.  "General Ike" was forced to leave the 91st BG formation and returned alone to its base at Bassingbourn. Tony Starcer repainted the right side, after it was repaired, and added a "5th" Star as General Eisenhower had been promoted.
